Heliconid Mimic Butterfly

Order, Family and Description

The Melitainae nymphalid butterflies are known to mimic Ithomiid and Heliconid butterflies. This butterfly was found feeding in Brazil right next to the species it mimicked. A congregation had gathered to imbibe minerals found in human sweat deposited by entomologists obliged to use this primitive hand rail to negotiate a particularly muddy section of the trail.
